ADSY PEP Summer Learning and Full Year Redesign Community Management

The Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Additional Days Schools School Year (ADSY) initiative provides additional funding for school systems that add up to 30 instructional days to any of their elementary schools to help address summer learning loss. TEA engaged TLA to manage communities of districts that are looking to implement ADSY through either voluntary summer learning programs or a full year redesign of their academic calendar.
ADSY Planning and Execution Program (PEP) Summer Learning Community Management
The ADSY PEP Summer Learning Community supports districts and schools in a robust program planning and continuous improvement process. Over the course of the year, district/school planning teams are guided through a variety of supports to help them plan the elements of a high-quality summer learning program in a thoughtful and practical sequence. The learning community provides a forum for districts/schools to draft elements of their plans with guidance and consultation from experts and peers. Importantly, this process is aligned to key findings from research on summer learning programs to ensure that districts are not “reinventing the wheel.” Learning community offerings include:
- Peer learning opportunities and workshops on key topics
- Technical assistance from Design and Implementation Partners (DIPs) on strategic planning, program design, and implementation strategies
- Feedback and coaching from TEA, TLA, and summer learning experts and practitioners
- Access to evidence-based tools and planning resources from high-quality summer learning programs

ADSY Full Year Redesign Community Management
The ADSY Full Year Redesign (FYR) Learning Community supports districts and schools as they move to a new 210-day calendar and plan for a complete redesign of the school day. The redesign spreads instruction time out over additional days and increases time for teacher planning and brain breaks, play, or enrichment for students. The Learning Community provides a forum for district/campus leaders to learn together and develop key elements of their redesign plans with guidance and consultation from experts and peers. Learning community offerings include:
- Peer learning opportunities and workshops on key topics, such as stakeholder engagement, calendar and schedule, high quality instructional materials, staffing, and budget;
- Technical assistance from Design and Implementation Partners (D&I Partners) on strategic planning, design, and implementation strategies;
- Feedback and coaching from TEA, The Learning Agenda, peers, and experts;
- Access to research-based tools and planning resources.
