Collaboration on the Evaluation of the PUEO Program at Punahou
NATIONAL SUMMER LEARNING ASSOCIATION
In partnership with the National Summer Learning Association, The Learning Agenda served as lead evaluator for the Clarence T.C. Ching PUEO Program at Punahou School. PUEO is a 7-year summer program experience for low-income, public school youth performing in the academic middle. PUEO accepts scholars into their program the summer before 6th grade and retains those scholars through high school graduation and into college. PUEO’s chief goal is for graduates to enter and complete post-secondary education. The program also contains a strong focus on service, social-emotional development, and Hawaiian culture.
PUEO engaged NSLA and TLA to assess the implementation and outcomes associated with long-term summer program participation. TLA also provided strategic recommendations for program improvement, emanating from the evaluation.
