Managing The Wallace Foundation’s Expanded Learning Opportunities Professional Learning Community (ELO-PLC)

THE WALLACE FOUNDATION

The Learning Agenda managed a professional learning community of eight Wallace Foundation grantees, all leading providers of summer, afterschool, expanded learning and integrated student services. Member organizations included BELL, Citizen Schools, Communities in Schools, Higher Achievement, Horizons, Providence After School Alliance, Say Yes to Education, and TASC. The purpose of the ELO-PLC was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, resources and strategies in support of organizational growth and sustainability and improved programming for youth.

Over the life of the PLC, members collaborated with experts to address common challenges, such as financing and sustainability, measurement and evaluation of academic and non-cognitive outcomes, assessing and ensuring program quality across multiple affiliates, aligning approaches to the Common Core State Standards, and outreach and communications to key stakeholders. The ELO-PLC was an integral part of the Foundation’s Summer and Expanded Learning initiative, and was designed to support the strategic objectives of Wallace’s investments.
